Palace Resorts Foundation

Q & A WITH MELISSA CARDENAS, DIRECTOR FOR THE PALACE FOUNDATION

Featured News Palace Resorts News

by Cessie Cerrato – Palace Resorts is known for many things: top notch service, breathtaking resort views, culinary offerings and of course, its unbeatable entertainment. But one of the things the company is most proud of is its philanthropic side. In fact, the Palace Foundation, founded in 2004, is a nonprofit organization that contributes to solving social issues in the local community. The foundation is made up of five committees: Dreams, Educational, Health, Environmental and Social Welfare. Since its creation, the foundation by Palace Resorts has been heavily involved with the local community.

In addition, the foundation recently inaugurated the philanthropic organization’s “Casa Hogar”. The initiative provides housing for 96 homeless children of all ages ranging from as young as 11 months to 11 years of age. “Casa Hogar’s” primary objective is to provide children and adolescents in situations of distress the opportunity to have a decent home, a formal education and to address their needs by promoting their human and social advancement in an optimal environment.

Headquartered in Cancun, the foundation is constantly helping the local community through social welfare, and the increasingly popular, corporate social responsibility. We’ve found guests want to participate in giving back, whether it be helping paint a local school, participating in sea turtle releases, or even helping build wheelchairs for children in need.

A lot of work goes into these initiatives and we sat down with Melissa Cardenas, director of the Palace Foundation. She gave us in the inside scoop on what it’s like to lead the foundation, and talks about challenges and overcoming them.

How long have you been with Palace Resorts?

I have been a proud member of the Palace Resorts family for the past two years.

What is your favorite part of working with the foundation?

My favorite part about working in the Palace Foundation is having the ability to help our employees and our community firsthand. It’s truly satisfying to know that our collaborations make a positive and lasting impact.

What are you most proud of?

I am really proud to be a part of such an inspiring team that are working together on ongoing important projects. No matter what we do within the foundation, we are always making a difference in people’s lives. It is an incredible feeling being able to give back to the community, and I am very much looking forward to the future as we continue to grow every day.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

I would have to say that my biggest accomplishment has been supporting the creation of Casa Hogar, the Palace Foundation’s orphanage where 96 local Mexican children are able to receive housing, healthcare and formal education. Casa Hogar represents an opportunity for us to invest in the future, and I could not be more proud of our ongoing efforts.

What has been your biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced as part of the foundation has been dedicating enough time to each of the five committees: Dreams, Education, Health, Environment and Wellness. There are so many projects that we would like to support in the local community, but it can be challenging to fully commit ourselves and our resources to everything that comes our way.

What are your goals for the foundation?

For more than a decade the Palace Foundation has being consistently growing and developing significant programming. Throughout the years, the organization has created effective committees based on the needs of the local community. In the coming years, we will continue to identify the initiatives that can fulfill the needs of both the local and national community.
